Design+Music 2020 Poster Show

Event Details:

So, your summer has not been the most ideal. Things seem bleak and change is on the horizon. As a way to combat the COVID blues, we’d like to spread some positivity through art in our community and want you to be a part of it!

The Design+Music initiative showcases the power of design and AIGA's influence in shaping the music industry. Whether you're a designer, artist, or music lover this event is for you!

This Year’s Format:

The effects of COVID-19 have rippled through our local business operations and put musicians in a tough spot for performing. Our new format will feature posters hung around town in the windows and on the walls of local businesses, and in an online gallery. This new way of viewing posters and bands not only keeps everyone safe from a large gathering, but is also a way to help out our local businesses and musicians!

We invite you to join us anytime on Friday, October 16th - Friday, October 23rd at participating locations, or online at AIGADesignPlus.com to view poster submissions by Jacksonville artists and designers, and performances by local bands.

Interested in submitting a poster? Design your poster based off of one of the following themes:

  • Songs that give you hope for a better tomorrow.
  • Songs that inspire you to want to get out, and change the world.
  • Songs that make you realize how much love is in the world.
  • Songs that drive you to want to create a stronger community.
  • Songs by your favorite local JAX musician/band or one of our performing artists!

Poster entry is $5, which gets you a 12×18 poster printed on matte paper and hung at participating locations, courtesy of PrintJax!! Your poster will also be featured on our online poster gallery at AIGADesignPlus.com.

Sorry, no self-printed or hand-made posters this year, but motion/animated designed posters are allowed this year. (See poster submission details section for specs).

The deadline for entries is Wednesday, October 8th at 8pm.

Even though there will be no live bands this year, we will still be featuring music from local bands/musicians, and also creating a playlist of songs/artists that posters were designed, so be sure to add your song to our Spotify playlist if you want it to be heard!

Poster Submission FAQs:

1. How should I set up my file?

Please download this years template file HERE - (12″ x 18″) Make sure the resolution is at least 300dpi and includes crop marks with a .125″ bleed. Name your file accordingly.

2. It says poster submissions only go up to 12×18 and can only print on paper. Why?

We highly encourage artists of all disciplines to create a work of art from music that inspires them, no matter what the medium. Unfortunately, we are unable to except self-printed or hand-made posters this year. Feel free to take a picture of your wood burned, Lite-Brite, food-type lettering masterpiece and tell everyone about your process via social media. Don't forget to tag @AIGAJax!

  • Uploads are limited to 10 seconds, although we recommend no more than 5 seconds.

Email your poster to designmusic@jacksonville.aiga.org. Make sure you add your song to our Spotify playlist so we can include it in our mixtape that we'll share via social media!

5. What if my file is too large to send in an email?

You can upload your file to Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer and share the link with us.

Wednesday, October 8th by 8:00 pm. We need to send all files to the printer and allow them time to print, cut, and send us the final prints.

7. Why do I need to submit my printed poster by Wednesday, October 8th, if the show isn’t until October 16?

We need time to layout and organize all prints to make sure they look great in the spaces.

8. Is there a limit to how many posters I can submit?

The limit does not exist. Just submit a form and pay for each poster submission.

9. Can I screenprint or hand-draw my poster?

Sorry, not this year :( For everyone's safety we are not accepting self-printed posters or arranging a poster drop-off this year.
