Love, Support, and Resilience at Orlando’s Love by Design

On Saturday, June 25th, AIGA Orlando held their Love By Design event, an all-day celebration of the city’s resilience designed to inspire all to stand up against discrimination and violence. The event raised funds for One Orlando to help the community in response to the tragedy at Pulse. Not only did local artists and designers donate their original work for sale and auction, but artists across the country in association with AIGA pitched in to exemplify values of inclusion, acceptance, and love!

Food trucks, live music, speakers, artwork — they had it all. The creative community came together  to support and organized this event in record time. It warmed my heart to see the love that went into putting on this purposeful and important event. Fellow artists, creatives, family and friends, and volunteers, all endured the hot mid-summer day, but that didn’t stop everyone from having a good time. Throughout the day, over 350 attendees showed their support!

The card readers were definitely working overtime all day. It was awesome to see folks buying up work in solidarity, from poster prints and original paintings, to shirts, buttons, stickers, and more. The event also had plenty of supporting sponsors to help with the cause: Three21 Creative, Net Conversion, Valencia College, Purple Rock Scissors, Lawton Connect, Rifle Paper Co, Lure Paper Goods & Design Studio, Spacebar, and Native Screenprinting.

After all was said and done, with the collective efforts of the artists, designers, performers, volunteers, and all that attended, AIGA Orlando was able to give over $5,000 to the One Orlando fund.

I am super glad to have been able to attend and show support for AIGA Orlando and Orlando at large. This event showed us how the talent, design, and diverse community can unite its creative forces for good. Love you all!
