On March 28th AIGA Jacksonville organized their third Design Sidekicks event. This is an event created to give design students the chance to see firsthand the day-to-day lives of local design agencies and professionals.
For two sessions, the design students (or ‘Sidekicks’) spent some time at the agency of their choice. Options included Anton West Advertising, Station Four, Patrick Carter Design, Folio Weekly, Karen Kuycki, Red Fin Group, TigerLily Media, C&H Printing and Wingard Creative. This gave students the chance to spend time with not one professional design house, but two in the same day.
Each agency and professional graciously took up the task of providing an experience, imparting whatever knowledge they believed would most benefit the students. For some agencies it was a closer look at the management side of design work, while others chose to give a tutorial on a certain technique, or workshop student’s portfolios in preparation for AIGA Jacksonville’s 25th Annual Portfolio Review.
After the working day was done, the Sidekicks invaded Mellow Mushroom in Avondale and met up with their humble hosts again. A lot of discussion about the day and the business was had as the students and professionals met to decompress after a long day of Design Sidekick activities!
