AIGA Jax Speaks with CMD+N Design Club at UNF

AIGA takes pride in being able to mold the creative minds of tomorrow. We were more than excited when the design students at the University of North Florida invited AIGA board members to speak at their first meeting of the semester. The room was packed with students ready to listen to us talk about the ins and outs of AIGA, the importance of becoming a member, as well as sharing design experiences of the past and present.

Karen and Stephanie pumped the room with a presentation on AIGA, the benefits of becoming a member, and detailing important information—like why you should never do spec work, how AIGA is here to exchange ideas, information and gain knowledge within the community. Karen showcased her current and personal projects detailing the perks of being a freelance designer. Stephanie wowed us with her journey from Tennessee to Florida. She presented her proactive approach of sending personally handmade portfolios to all of the design agencies in Jacksonville, while still taking the initiative to show up at every event. Kim and Jen followed up with personal stories of how they became involved in AIGA by volunteering at events and how volunteering is a major stepping-stone for networking and exposure.

By attending events and meeting local designers while in college, it can lead to internships, possibly becoming full-time time jobs after graduation. Our membership co-director, Jose, closed the night by showing off his award winning designs and sharing stories of projects and how they came into play from the ground up.

Thanks again to the CMD+N Design Club for having AIGA stop by. It was great meeting the future creatives of graphic design and we hope to see you at future events!
