Jen Cone is a designer at Wounded Warrior Project by day, and a virtual DJ/music maker by night. She became interested in the Always Summer Poster Show because it married her two favorite loves: design and music.

“I do the occasional poster design and other tasks with my day job, but with Always Summer I get to express myself a lot more. This event is one of the most exciting AIGA events I look forward to each year.”

“Not only is designing around a song challenging — attempting to pick the essential summer song is hard for me because there are so many great ones from past and present. I chose these two songs for the poster show because they had been on heavy rotation for me everywhere I could plug into. I had discovered them on turntable.fm and I just couldn’t get enough of them. They were songs that made you move and bob your head. The quintessential feel good music. I wanted to pass the emotion along to people checking out the posters.”

“At the time, I was really into space so both posters have the space theme. I wanted to keep the poster as simple as possible by letting the imagery do most of the talking while you listened to the song playing in the gallery. I didn’t want the posters to be so full of hidden meaning. The music should do the talking with the posters serving as the visual extension. Simplistic yet so stylistic.”

“I discovered Always Summer in 2010 and have managed to create two posters each year. It’s always been tough trying to dwindle it down to two songs, but I’ve had a blast designing them each year. I’m hoping I can find the time to do two again this year. It’s definitely a great way to introduce people to new music and show your creative abilities to a wider audience.”
