For 35 years, AIGA Jacksonville has brought together emerging student designers and experienced industry professionals for our Portfolio Review Weekend, including an evening of inspiration and a day of one-on-one reviews.
The weekend kickoff with An Evening with Gina and Stephen Grimm on Friday, April 12th, at UNF, inspiring attendees in preparation for the Portfolio Review event. Gina and Stephen shared their career paths in the design field, their lessons learned along the way, and case studies of their incredible work – ranging from branding, package design, animation, and motion graphics.
The Portfolio Review took place on Saturday, April 13th at the Jacksonville University, Davis college of Business, bringing together more than 50 students from Jacksonville University, University of North Florida, Flagler and SCAD— and over 30 professional reviewers.
The event concluded with a design competition. The panel of judges for the design competition consisted of our guest speakers Gina Grimm (https://ginaagrimm.com/ ), Stephen Grimm (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiGesnlGSRpaE36phsp8SJg) and Membership Chair, Chris Jaeger (https://vimeo.com/chrisjaegerdesign). The competition was tough, but the wonderful judges did a great job narrowing down the best portfolios being reviewed resulting in Justin Luong (UNF) winning 1st place, Rosa Matos (SCAD) in 2nd place, and Valeria Romo (UNF) in 3rd place.
The Portfolio Review Weekend continues the tradition of bringing together local students, designers, and professionals for a weekend of creative energy and community amongst designers and artists. Thank you all for your support and attendance because YOU make this event a success every year! We couldn’t have pulled this event off without you, and we hope to see you next year for the 36th review.
