To the creative community,
Over the past 29 years, AIGA Jacksonville has had the privilege of providing programming and events to further careers, create connections, develop partnerships with local businesses, and give back to local nonprofits.
As one of 73 chapters of the oldest and largest professional design association, AIGA Jacksonville’s mission is to unite and inspire the community for creative professionals. AIGA Jacksonville and AIGA National are committed to serving all designers, including marginalized and underrepresented designers through a variety of programs.
AIGA is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit organization, and the impact starts with YOU on a grassroots level.
On June 27, 2018, we held our very first Community Meeting to get a finger on the pulse of the community and hear first-hand what you would like to see from the chapter. The feedback and insights were invaluable. Based on the results, in 2019, close to 50 programs and initiatives, rooted in our mission to unite and inspire the creative community, are planned for the year. The ideas are tailored to educate, mentor, connect and give back to our city, no matter where you are in your career.
However, we realized we couldn’t do it all, which is why we are sharing community events in our calendar. We want to see the Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and surrounding areas, thrive and have others flock to the bold city of the south, and do so in a safe and accessible place.
So, how is AIGA Jacksonville working to reach the mission of uniting and inspiring the creative community? In early August, design leaders ranging from educators, UX, writers, developers, motion, animation, print, and business owners—just to name a few—gathered to create inclusive solutions and zero in on how to better engage students, seasoned designers, and emerging designers in their diverse space: agencies, in-house, freelance, etc. The meeting was just the tip of the iceberg for the Board in discovering how to serve the community better, and we are excited for the coming year.
Feedback is vital in shaping the experience of AIGA. What motivates you? Let us know what’s working or what we should be doing more of for our community. Maybe there is a social or civil issue in Jacksonville we should highlight. Volunteering is the best way to take action toward making a change. You can also join our community Slack channel and explore topics and mutual interests.
Together, we can do amazing things.
Thank you for your continued support,
AIGA Jacksonville Board
