Always Summer Poster Show + Mixtape 2016

AIGA Jacksonville invites you to our 8th annual Always Summer Poster Show + Mixtape. This annual celebration of design excellence brings together the Jacksonville creative community. Come rub elbows with your fellow creatives and enjoy the sights and sounds of the final days of summer. We will showcase a wide array of posters created by local artists of their favorite summer song. Feast your eyes to amazing illustrations, typography, photography, and more!

The poster show will be the perfect place to enjoy hot designs, cold beverages, delicious pops from The Hyppo, and great company. DJ Mowgli and DJ Lowkill will be spinning a mixtape of songs compiled from artists selections.

Art + Drinks + Music = A winning summer combination. Let's close out summer with a bang!

With your $10 poster submission, AIGA will take care of printing your 18x24 poster, thanks to our special print sponsor PrintJax.

Printing on your own? Posters can be dropped off on 9/21 from 6-8pm at:
CORK North

Guest speaker: The Bubble Process

Always Summer Poster Show + Mixtape weekend will kick off with our special guest speaker — The Bubble Process on Friday, September 23!

With clients like Newsweek and House of Blues, as well as musicians, The Black Keys, Girl Talk, and Explosions in the Sky, The Bubble Process continues to pave the way for the art of the gig poster.

The Bubble Process is a two-man design and illustration firm built on the foundations of good food, good music, and a good time. In 2006, Sean Higgins and Nicholas Rezabek decided to make their dream job a total drawing party reality. We're excited to have The Bubble Process join us and share their experiences in the design industry.

  1. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Always Summer Poster Show + Mixtape is an all ages show. We require an ID for all guests so we can match it with your ticket order and 21+ to drink responsibly.

  2. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Nope. Just bring your ID and we'll check you in at the door.

  3. Do I need to live in Jacksonville to make a poster?
Always Summer is open to all artists!

If you meet our September 14 deadline, we'll take care of your printing, but you handle the shipping.

ARTIST FAQs:

  1. How should I set up my file?
Up to 18" x 24" (if you're planning to print with us). Make sure the resolution is at least 300dpi and includes crop marks with a .125" bleed. Name your file accordingly.

    Example file name: JONSNOW_SONGTITLE_18x24.pdf
Example song file: Musician - Song Title.mp3

  2. It says poster submissions only go up to 24x36* and can only print on paper. Why?
We highly encourage artists of all disciplines to create a work of art from their favorite summer song, no matter what the medium. Unfortunately, we are unable to hang any heavyweight objects or anything larger than 24x36. Feel free to take a picture of your wood burned, Lite-Brite
, food-type lettering masterpiece and tell everyone about your process at the show!

*Your $10 fee will only cover 18x24. You can print 24x36 with a different printer, but we cannot accept a poster size any larger than 24x36.

  3. My file is all set. What's next?
Email your poster to aigajaxpostershow@gmail.com. Make sure you include your song in MP3 format (256 kbps preferred) so we can include it in our mixtape to play the night of the show.

  4. What if my file is too large to send in an email?
You can upload your file to Google Drive or Hightail and share the link with us. Make sure you include your song.

  5. When is the deadline to submit my poster and song file?
Wednesday, September 14 by 9:00 am. Not 9:01 am, please. We need to send all files to the printer first thing Wednesday morning, and allow them time to print, cut, and send us the final prints.

Note: You do have the option to go with a different printer. You can drop off your poster between the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 pm at CORK North on Wednesday, September 21. Not 8:01 pm. I have to eat.

If you need to drop your poster off earlier, send aigajaxpostershow@gmail.com and we will set up a time for you to drop off your poster. Don't forget to email your MP3!

  6. Why do I need to submit my printed poster by September 21, if the show isn't until September 24?
We need time to lay out and organize all prints to make sure they look great in the space.

  7. Is there a limit to how many posters I can submit?
The limit does not exist. Just submit a form for each poster and pay $10 per submission.

  8. Can I screenprint or hand-draw my poster?
Yes! Select the Artist Poster Submission and pay $10. You will be responsible for the production of your poster. Keep in mind the size and weight constraints previously mentioned above.
